  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 2 cups thinly sliced or shredded chicken or turkey
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups drained sauerkraut
  • 1 cup Thousand Island or Russian dressing
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the rye bread into cubes or slices. Layer half of the bread in the baking dish.
  3. Add half of the sliced chicken or turkey, followed by half of the shredded Swiss cheese and half of the sauerkraut. Drizzle half of the dressing over the top.
  4. Repeat layering with remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  6. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
