  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for topping
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and optional cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in cold butter until resembling coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in shredded cheddar cheese gently.
  5. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg until combined.
  6. Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  7. Spoon dough into the prepared pan in chunky layers for pull-apart texture.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Brush warm loaf with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and parsley once out of the oven.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
