  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pan with grease and parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
  3. In one bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Combine dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just blended.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan; layer half of the apple slices on top.
  7. Add remaining batter over apples; top with remaining apple slices.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping; sprinkle evenly over the cake.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown; check doneness with a toothpick.
  10. Let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.
