  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch baking pan.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples; set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and optional cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture; stir until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan and layer with half of the apple slices.
  7. Top with remaining batter and arrange remaining apple slices decoratively on top.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping; sprinkle over apples.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown; cool before slicing.
